The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) conduct centralized recruitment for Nursing Superintendents across all Indian Railway zones and production units. The selection process consists of a Single-Stage Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination.

4. RRB Nursing Superintendent Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for Category No. 1 Nursing Superintendent must possess the prescribed educational qualification and nurse registration before the application closing date (14 October 2026).

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess either of the following qualifications:

• Option 1 (GNM Route): Certificate as Registered Nurse and Midwife after passing a 3-year General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course from a School of Nursing or institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) or State Nursing Council.
• Option 2 (B.Sc Nursing Route): B.Sc (Nursing) degree from a recognized university or institute.

Age Limit & Category Relaxations

• Minimum Age: 20 Years
• Maximum Age: 40 Years
• Age Cutoff Date: 01 January 2027

Upper age relaxations as per Government of India norms:

• SC / ST Candidates: 5 Years (Up to 45 years)
• OBC-NCL Candidates: 3 Years (Up to 43 years)
• Ex-Servicemen (ESM): Up to 3 Years after service deduction
• PwBD Candidates: 10 to 15 Years relaxation

5. RRB Nursing Superintendent Medical Standard 2026 (C1 Standard)

The prescribed medical standard for Nursing Superintendent is C1 Standard. Candidates shortlisted after CBT must undergo a thorough Railway Medical Examination by Railway Medical Authorities.

• Visual Acuity Standard (C1):
  • Distant Vision: 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses.
  • Near Vision: Sn. 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or testing.
• Consequences of Failing Medical Standard: Candidates failing the C1 medical standard for Nursing Superintendent are NOT offered alternative appointments. A medical re-examination/appeal may be submitted under specified rules in CEN 05/2026.

Nursing Superintendent is a prestigious 7th CPC Pay Level 7 post in Indian Railways with an initial basic pay of ₹44,900 per month.

7. RRB Nursing Superintendent Job Profile & Responsibilities

Nursing Superintendents hold supervisory and administrative responsibility in Railway Hospitals, Divisional Hospitals, and Sub-Divisional Health Units:

• Supervising ward nursing staff, staff nurses, and paramedical attendants.
• Managing hospital ward administration, patient care protocols, and nursing rosters.
• Ensuring infection control, hygiene standards, and medical equipment readiness.
• Coordinating with Doctors, Chief Medical Superintendents (CMS), and hospital administration.
• Maintaining patient records, nursing documentation, and drug inventory management.

8. RRB Nursing Superintendent Exam Pattern 2026

Selection is based on a Single Stage Computer Based Test (CBT). The exam comprises 100 objective multiple-choice questions for 100 marks.
